Beta Event

Beta Event 1

Welcome to your life
There’s no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world.
~Tears for Fears

All stories must have a beginning, especially after the end.

Welcome to your story and the start of your journey. Your reasons for leaving what you knew and taking these steps towards the settlement of Cenotaph are your own. Perhaps you are on a mission at the behest of another. Perhaps you are running away from a past that still tickles the back of your neck. Perhaps you simply are looking for a fresh start.

Maps are untrustworthy and so are rumors, but it is believed that in the southern forests of Gotha lie lands relatively untouched by the Gothic warlords of the region. They say there is food there. They say there is lumber, good earth, and the freedom to live your life as you see fit. And Cenotaph lies in the heart of such luxury. One only needs to brave the road, which is no small feat when one considers that fear of the journey beyond one’s home has always served as plenty of deterrant for many. One may face desperate thieves and opportunistic warbands, nonmen monsters, Malefic creatures born from nightmares, and good old-fashioned disease, danger, misery and starvation.

But there’s also plenty of all that where you came from.

And so, you find yourself en route to Cenotaph with others – strength in numbers afterall. A group, especially an armed one, is hopefully a deterrent to those who would wish ill upon you…but it also draws attention. And can you trust those you travel with? What are their reasons for making the journey?

It’s too late to turn back now.

February 21, 2020 marks the first of our weekend-long Beta events. While these events serve as tests for our mechanics and processes, our intention is for these events to be Prologues to the main story as you travel on the road to Cenotaph. You will not be earning XP, but you will be earning glory, lore, and items along the way.

Our events will be held at MiddleGround in Onalaska:

204 Vanhoesen Rd
Onalaska, WA 98570

After you register, you’ll receive a link to our character builder form where you can start designing your character. Depending on what you build, you will receive further information on any culturally or character-specific information you might have. We’re beyond excited to see you at our first Beta event!

Other information:

What time does check-in start?
Check-in starts at 5pm, and game start is at 8pm.
Can I check in after if I arrive late?
What is the parking situation?
There will be parking available for about 30-40 vehicles. We’re currently exploring overflow parking options, but we do encourage carpooling where possible for the time being.
Do I need to play the same character for the Betas that I plan on playing for the game itself?

-You are free to play your intended PC for the standard events, or you can play something entirely different than the character you would like to play for the games themselves.
If I play the same character for the Betas that I play for the events, can I rewrite between the Betas and the first game?
-If you decide to keep your Beta PC for the standard events, you will have an opportunity to rewrite before you enter into play proper.
Can I play a ranger for Beta 1?
-For the first beta, we are not intending to include glory character concepts. This would include priests/cultists, seers, paladins, dhampirs, rangers, and magicians. This is so we can better test our base skills and systems before adding in specialized abilities.
What will my character earn?
-There will not be XP awarded for the Betas. This is to better ensure that when the standard events start, everyone is on semi-equal footing. There will, however, be a glory reward of 3 glory per beta attended, as well as the opportunity to earn more glory if you help set up and tear down. In addition, you may keep any lore, items, materials, or treasure-y bits you encounter.
Do our cabins have outlets?
Yes! Outlets, bunks, mattresses, and heating.  There are also showers, toilets, and basic kitchen facilities on site.
Do we need to pick cabins now?
Given the story of the first Beta, we’re not assigning bunks at ticket registration. Bunks will be first-come, first-serve on the game site, and there will be more than enough for everyone.
If I want to bring a tent to camp out, can I?
Of course! Feel free to do this if you desire. Please ensure that you will be warm, however, as February can get quite cold (last year there was snow).
Should I bring food?
A food plan will be available for purchase (see that ticket!), but given the rigors of LARP, you may want to have some extra vittles.
Do I need to bring bedding?
You also should bring your own pillows and bedding, yes.
What is this glory ticket I see?
-Glory is a currency that is awarded for helping the health and quality of the game on an out-of-character basis. It can be used to purchase special concepts, memberships, out-of-culture perks and flaws, among other things. For an extra $10 at ticket purchase you can effectively purchase 1 glory at half price. This is limited to one purchase upon buying tickets.
What if I want to NPC?
We had such a large number of volunteers for our first Beta event that we are full up on NPCs at this time. If you have already made arrangements with us to volunteer, no need to buy a ticket.

Please enter your ticket amounts here and you will be redirected to a secure PayPal payment area.
